On August 6, 1890, at Auburn Prison, New York, William Kemmler became the first person to be sent to the chair

On August 6, 1890, at Auburn Prison, New York, William Kemmler became the first person to be sent to the chair. He was convicted of murdering his lover, Matilda Ziegler, with an axe. After he was strapped in, a charge of approximately 700 volts was delivered for only 17 seconds before the current failed.  Although witnesses reported smelling burnt clothing and charred flesh, Kemmler was far from dead, and a second shock was prepared. The second charge was 1,030 volts and applied for about two minutes, whereupon smoke was observed coming from the head of Kemmler, who was clearly deceased. An autopsy showed that the electrode attached to his back had burned through to the spine. Electrocution as a humane means of execution was first suggested in 1881 by Dr. Albert Southwick, a dentist. Southwick had witnessed an elderly drunkard “painlessly” killed after touching the terminals of an electrical generator in Buffalo, New York. In the prevalent form of execution at the time—death b...

In 2011, authorities recovered the body of a woman from the Niagara River. She was later identified as Ayano Tokumasu, a 20-year-old international student from Japan. While visiting Niagara Falls with a friend, Tokumasu climbed over a railing to pose for a picture. She was straddling the railing to look at the falls, and when she stood up, she lost her footing and fell into the river 24 meters upstream from the brink of the falls. Mental patients stripped of dignity, live naked

Mental patients stripped of dignity, live naked KOLKATA/MURSHIDABAD: More than 50 inmates of a mental asylum in Behrampore, West Bengal, are forced to remain naked, without a shed of fibre to protect their dignity, because of alleged callousness by the authorities. Twenty of them are women. They say their clothes are so badly infested with bugs that they prefer to go nude.  Members of Kolkata-based mental health rights organization, Anjali, raised the alarm after Behrampore Mental Hospital authorities took no action despite repeated pleas. "We go to the hospital five days a week to train male and female patients. Each visit is traumatising because we see the inmates languishing in wretched conditions. In winter, colonies of lice nest in the staircase. The stench makes the air heavy and nauseating. Their plight has got worse in the past couple of months. We repeatedly asked the hospital authorities to make the conditions more habitable but there has been no improvement," ...

On December 25, 2015, a farmer named Jose Antonio Nievas discovered something unusual near a stream on his farm, located about 15 km from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Initially, he thought it was just a rock However, when he removed the mud covering it and dug around it, he realized that it was no ordinary rock at all. His discovery turned out to be much more extraordinary than he had imagined, and so he decided to involve experts from the scientific community. After careful analysis, scientists concluded that this mysterious, apparently rock-like object was neither a meteorite nor a dinosaur egg, but something very rare: the shell of a glyptodon. The glyptodon was a huge armored mammal that lived during the Pleistocene epoch and was an ancestor of the modern armadillo. These massive animals could weigh up to two tons and appear to have shared the territory with humans for around 4,000 years before disappearing from the face of the Earth.

Unbelievable Photos Taken Seconds Before Tragedy Struck

It appears this lion is curious to see what the man at the campsite is watching on his tablet. However, that is just our interpretation. The reality behind all this is that the human in the picture is professional animal trainer Charlie Sammut, and the lion is his perfectly trained buddy. So yes, it’s safe to say that no one was harmed in staging this photo. Baby goats are such sweet, innocent animals — right? For those who don’t know, goats are known for manifesting aggressive behavior, which is their way of asserting dominance. This is probably why they shouldn’t be kept inside the house as pets, but rather on the farm to help with agriculture. This girl would have avoided being rammed if, instead of backing away, she’d slapped the goat on the side of his neck. This jaguar escaped Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary in West Bengal, where it was part of a jaguar show, then proceeded to viciously attack a human. Even though the man survived, the jaguar, who had previously terrorized the ...

In 1973, two men went to police claiming to have been abducted by aliens

In 1973, two men went to police claiming to have been abducted by aliens. The police thought they were lying, so they left the men alone in the room with a secret recording device. To their surprise, they continued taking about what happened and how terrified they were. On the evening of October 11, 1973, 42-year-old Charles Hickson and 19-year-old Calvin Parker told the Jackson County, Mississippi Sheriff's office they were fishing off a pier on the west bank of the Pascagoula River in Mississippi when they heard a whirring/whizzing sound, saw two flashing blue lights, and observed an oval shaped object 30–40 feet across and 8–10 feet high. Parker and Hickson claimed they were "conscious but paralyzed" while three "creatures" with "robotic slit-mouths" and "crab-like pincers" took them aboard the object and subjected them to an examination.

Elephant went on a rampage during a transport and knocked out power to a whole neighborhood

Elephant went on a rampage during a transport and knocked out power to a whole neighborhood, but cameras later showed why his heart broke. A rural neighborhood lost power overnight after an elephant being moved to a new sanctuary started pulling down streetlights and damaging power lines along the road. At first, people thought he was simply enraged. But sanctuary staff later explained the elephant had been recovering from an injury for months, and during that time, he had formed a deep bond with another elephant in the rehabilitation area. On his final day there, cameras captured the two elephants standing together, holding trunks like they somehow understood goodbye was coming. Then he was loaded into the transport truck. As the truck moved through town, the elephant became restless, reaching out toward poles and streetlights, pulling them down one by one until the area went dark. Workers spent the morning fixing the damage, and officials said the move had gone wrong because the...
