He was called "The king of cocaine", as he created one of the most infamous drug cartels in history, the Medellín Cartel. Escobar is speculated to have been the wealthiest criminal of all time. By the time of his death in 1993, Escobar had amassed a fortune of 30 billion US dollars, equalling 70 billion US dollars today. During the 1980s, it is speculated that Escobar was shipping out 70 - 80 tonnes of powder cocaine a month. It is rumored that he had to spend 2,500 US dollars a month on rubber bands to hold his money together.  There is even a story that while on the run in 1992, Escobar was with his daughter in a hideout house, which became cold.
