He was called "The king of cocaine", as he created one of the most infamous drug cartels in history, the MedellĂ­n Cartel. Escobar is speculated to have been the wealthiest criminal of all time. By the time of his death in 1993, Escobar had amassed a fortune of 30 billion US dollars, equalling 70 billion US dollars today. During the 1980s, it is speculated that Escobar was shipping out 70 - 80 tonnes of powder cocaine a month. It is rumored that he had to spend 2,500 US dollars a month on rubber bands to hold his money together.  There is even a story that while on the run in 1992, Escobar was with his daughter in a hideout house, which became cold.
