While his identity remains a mystery, this recording will make you feel like he's sitting right behind you.

The Day the Generals Cried

The Day the Generals Cried Even the hardest soldiers were unprepared of what they encountered in Germany in 1945. The army led by General Patton arrived at a camp known as Ohrdruf, just outside Weimar at the end of World War II. What they noticed the first was the terrible smell. Then they looked upon heaps of dead bodies--prisoners starved or shot. Some of the survivors were in a death rattle and were feeble. Also crematoriums remained where the bodies were cremated by the Nazi regime as a mode of concealing their atrocities. Patton was a war-weary man and could not look away. there was nothing that could aid in foreseeing such evil. General Eisenhower heard about it, and immediately proceeded to the camp. He was furious. No words could describe the horrificness. He instructed all American soldiers that were not on the battlefield to pay a visit. He had also compelled local German civilians to go out and view what had occurred. Eisenhower wanted the truth to be perceived by all. This ...

82 years ago on April 19th 1943, Belgian and Jewish underground movements attacked a transport of Jews from the Mechelen transit camp in Belgium

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow comrades. On this day, 82 years ago on April 19th 1943, Belgian and Jewish underground movements attacked a transport of Jews from the Mechelen transit camp in Belgium. 150 Jews were rescued, but 220 died in the process. It was the only resistance effort during the Holocaust that had attacked a transport train. According to historian Halik Kochanski in their book  Resistance, the underground war in Europe 1939–45 : The attack on the train  Convoy XX  was carried out by three members of the Belgian resistance, who had received advance information of the train’s intended departure. Armed with a lone pistol and pliers, they wrapped a storm lantern with red paper and placed it on the track between Mechelen and Leuven, as if it were a warning signal. When the train came to a stop, the three resistance fighters: “ Robert Maistrau, Georges Livschitz and Jean Franklemon – were able to pry open the doors to one of the wagons. Five peopl...

The Netherlands are attacked by Germany. About 140,000 Jews live there

May 1940. The Netherlands are attacked by Germany. About 140,000 Jews live there. The majority of them are Dutch citizens, approximately 15,000 of them are German refugees. They believed that they were out of danger. They hadn’t. The First Chains Nazi started with no guns. They began with rules. Jews were ejected out of government employment. They were deprived of their businesses. Next came the registration--names entered, lists on which would later depend the decision who was to be sent away. Life narrowed down on them day by day. The Deportations 🚂 Summer 1942: the trains begin. Westerbork. Vught. Then Auschwitz, Sobibor. Families smashed into cattle cars, transported east. Even German records by February 1944 were admitting the figure--98,000 Jews already deported. Yes, there were even attempts of the Dutch citizens to fight back. Even church leaders came out. But it didn’t matter. The Nazi machine continued running. The End of a Community By September 1944, 107,000 ...

Pilecki is the lone individual who chose to travel to Auschwitz and emerged from it alive

Witold Pilecki was not only brave. He was amazing. In 1940, people heard rumors about a new Nazi camp named Auschwitz. No one understood how terrible it really was. Pilecki wanted to know the truth, so he did something crazy. He got himself arrested and sent there. On purpose. They provided him a false name, Tomasz SerafiƄski, and pushed him in. Most prisoners attempted to survive. Pilecki did better. He established a clandestine group right in the heart of the camp. They exchanged food, offered hope, and smuggled messages to the outside. His reports brought to the world the information of gas chamber's, starvation, and mass murders. The first real evidence of the Holocaust. And still, the Allies did nothing. He waited for three year's. Nothing was different. So in April of 1943, he escaped. A rope ladder, the darkness, a run through open countryside. He escaped and wrote it all down. His report was concise, harsh, irrefutable. Pilecki is the lone individual who chos...
