Two heartless Germans smiling on as a woman is hung in the background. German troops used mass rape as a means of terrorizing the local populace

Two heartless Germans smiling on as a woman is hung in the background. German troops used mass rape as a means of terrorizing the local populace The way women were treated by the German armed forces during the second World War hinged on a variety of factors, ranging from the specific unit involved, to the location and time period. The behaviour which members of the German armed forces exhibited towards women was quite varied, ranging from kind and humane, to downright barbaric. On the Eastern Front, rape was (at least officially) discouraged. Army High Command feared outbreaks of venereal disease (due to poor sanitary conditions) as well as violating Nazi racial policy (it was illegal for an Aryan to have sex with a “lesser” Slav). This did not mean that rape didn’t happen. On the contrary, instances of brutal sexual assault were shockingly common. Jewish women and girls were subjected to sexual violence before being murdered during the invasion of Poland in 1939. In occupied part...

In 2003, pizza delivery man Brian Wells wore a collar bomb to rob a PNC bank in Pennsylvania. After his arrest, police left him sitting on the ground unattended while awaiting the bomb squad.  Just three minutes before their arrival, the bomb detonated live on television.  This footage shows the final moments before the collar exploded. The case of Brian Wells, often referred to as the "Pizza Bomber" or "Collar Bomb" case, is a bizarre and tragic incident that occurred in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 2003. On August 28 of that year, Brian Wells, a pizza delivery man, entered a PNC bank claiming he had a bomb strapped around his neck and demanding money. He was given a bag with $8,702, and the police were called. Shortly after Wells left the bank, he was apprehended by the police and handcuffed.     He claimed that he had been forced into the crime by unknown assailants who had placed the bomb around his neck. Murder of Tristyn Bailey

13-year-old Tristy Bailey lived happily in St. Johns County, Florida, with her family until her life was cut short. 14-year-old Aiden Fucci always told his friends that he was going to ǩill someone; they thought it was part of his dark humor until he finally did. On May 8, 2021, Aiden lured Bailey to a wooded area in their locality and stabbed her 114 times before returning to his family's house. The investigation focused on Fucci because Tristyn was last seen with him, according to CCTV footage. When a search warrant was obtained, blood stained clothes and shoes were recovered from his room. There was no motive; he just wanted to know what it felt like to watch someone bleed out. He was tried as an adult and, on March 24, sentenced to life in prison. Notorious French fake doctor and killer freed: lawyer

Jean-Claude Romand was a French man who lived a life full of lies for 18 years. He told everyone he was a medical doctor working with the World Health Organization in Geneva. His wife, kids, parents, and friends believed every bit of it. But in reality, Romand never even finished his second year in medical school. He spent most of his days pretending to go to work, hanging out in parking lots, and using the time to maintain his web of lies. He used fake investments and borrowed money to fund his lifestyle, but by January 1993, the lies were catching up with him. People were starting to ask questions, and Romand knew his secret life was about to come crashing down. Image: Jean Claude Romand (left) and wife Florence Crolet So on January 9, 1993, he murdered his wife by hitting her with a rolling pin. The next morning, he calmly watched cartoons with his two kids before shooting both of them. That same day, he visited his parents and shot them too, along with their dog. He later ...

Jody Plauché's kidnapping and his father's deadly vengeance.

He used to tell people, 'If anybody ever touches my kid, I'll **** him.' I knew he wasn't kidding." In February 1984, 11-year-old Jody Plauché was kidnapped and sexually-assaulted by his karate teacher, Jeff Doucet. Stolen away from his Baton Rouge home and held prisoner in a California hotel room, he endured several days of horrific abuse before police tracked him and his kidnapper down and returned him safely to his dad, Gary Plauché. But Jody's ordeal wasn't over — and his father wanted revenge. On March 16, 1984, Doucet was being walked through the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport to be handed over to Louisiana authorities. Gary Plauché, hiding behind sunglasses and a baseball cap, stood in wait, then suddenly stepped forward and shot Doucet in the head at point-blank range — all while local news cameras were rolling. Plauché, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was separated from his wife, June, at the time of the shooting. He served as a sergeant in t...

The teen death row inmate who was executed twice

The teen death row inmate who was executed twice On execution day, executioners strapped Willie into “Gruesome Gertie,” the electric chair that had been used to execute twenty-three people; he convulsed and screamed, but did not die. The portable electric chair, known as “Gruesome Gertie,” was found to have been improperly set up by an intoxicated prison guard and inmate from the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. When the sheriff ordered the electricity shut off, Willie was taken back to his cell, spared and hopeful. Reflecting on the experience afterward, Willie wrote: I didn’t think about my whole life like at the picture show. Just, ‘Willie, you’re going outta this world in this bad chair.’ Sometimes I thought it so loud it hurt my head and when they put the #black bag over my head I was all locked up inside the bag with the loud thinking . . . I felt a burning in my head and my left leg and I jumped against the straps. When the straps kept cutting me I hoped I was alive and ...

The last known photograph of Michael C. Rockefeller

The last known photograph of Michael C. Rockefeller always does it for me. He’s just calmly tinkering with his camera. The grin of the man next to him is haunting… Rockefeller is in Papua New Guinea, in a particularly remote part. And the tribe he stays with are notorious cannibals. The smile of that man, is the smile of man who has tasted the flesh of human beings before. Michael Rockefeller disappeared shortly after the photo was taken. He was only 27, and he was never seen again. Some say his small boat sank on a nearby island. An excellent swimmer, he likely didn’t drown and would have made it to dry land. After this? No trace of Rockefeller was ever found. No footprints, no pieces of clothing, no body, no hair. Nothing. I’m pretty sure he was killed and eaten shortly after this picture was taken. I wonder if the grinning man is already thinking of what Rockefeller would taste like. He’s eaten enemy soldiers before. But never before did the tribe have a Rockefeller heir on the menu...

Remembering the Bangladesh Liberation War: The Struggle for Independence and the Atrocities of 1971

Remembering the Bangladesh Liberation War: The Struggle for Independence and the Atrocities of 1971. The Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 was a pivotal moment in the history of South Asia. The conflict was sparked by the refusal of the government of Pakistan to recognize the results of the 1970 elections in East Pakistan, where the Awami League, a Bengali nationalist party, had won a majority of seats. The Pakistan Army launched a military operation in East Pakistan, known as Operation Searchlight, in an attempt to suppress the Bengali nationalist movement and maintain control over the region. The military operation led to widespread atrocities, including mass killings, rape, and forced displacement. The Pakistan Army targeted civilians, particularly members of the Hindu minority, in a campaign of ethnic cleansing. The Bengali nationalist movement, led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his Awami League party, organized resistance against the Pakistani military and formed a provision...

99-Year-Old Former Nazi Secretary’s Final Appeal Denied for Holocaust Complicity

99-Year-Old Former Nazi Secretary’s Final Appeal Denied for Holocaust Complicity In a courtroom in Germany, an elderly woman named Irmgard Furchner faced a final chapter of her long and dark past. At 99 years old, Furchner, who once worked as a secretary at the Stutthof Nazi concentration camp during World War II, lost her last chance to appeal a conviction. This marked a significant moment in the pursuit of justice for the Holocaust. Back in December 2022, Furchner had been found guilty of helping with the murder of over 10,000 people at the camp. Despite her defense’s efforts to overturn the verdict, the Federal Court of Justice upheld her two-year suspended sentence, making it a final decision. Furchner's role at the camp involved taking dictation and handling letters for the camp's commander. She was aware of the severe conditions that prisoners endured, including the horrific sight and smell of their suffering and deaths. Her duties were crucial in running the cam...

The Nazis kill pregnant women during WWII

The Nazis kill pregnant women during WWII The Nazis did abort pregnant women in World War II--and with intent. It was not a gratuitous violence. It was to clear entire populations, predominantly Jews and Roma. A pregnant woman to the Nazis was a bearer not just any individual, but the future of a collectivity they were out to destroy. They took away the life of her before it even lived, by killing her. Once in the camps such as Auschwitz, pregnant women would most likely be dispatched directly to the gas chambers. They were not of any use in work and thus the Nazis simply did away with them. Expecting in the camps and the ghettos was basically a death sentence. A lot of women were induced to abort. Alive children went and were killed. The severe circumstances were severe conditions, starvation, sickness, lack of medicine, which also resulted in the majority of the mothers not living long. This was not coincidence or war by-product. It was an inhuman agenda to divide families, abolish b...

The Grimes sisters. Chicago’s most infamous unsolved murders

The Grimes sisters. Chicago’s most infamous unsolved murders. Barbara and Patricia Grimes, aged 15 and 13 respectively, had lived in the Brighton Park neighborhood and had walked to the now-closed Brighton Theater to see Love Me Tender on 28 December 1956 and never returned home. Their nude bodies were found a month later, on 27 January 1957 in Willow Springs. There had been rai,n and the snow had thawed, and construction workers saw the bodies at German Church Road and County Line Road. The theater was on Archer Avenue, a diagonal artery which eventually ends near Willow Springs Road. There has always been speculation that they were offered a ride home after going for something to eat. And there were numerous suspects, ranging from a dishwasher with a low IQ to a kid who looked like Elvis and was later in life sent to jail for murder, and a guy who had a dream about where the bodies were (and, in fact, the bodies were found only a few miles from the location in his dream). Th...
