This man was about to jump off a bridge in London when a few strangers began talking him out of it. The event took place on May 1, 2017, on a bridge over the North Circular Road near Golders Green, North London. The Rescue: Passersby noticed a man in severe distress who threatened to jump from the bridge. A small group of complete strangers immediately ran over, grabbed his arms, clothing, and legs, and physically restrained him to prevent him from falling. The Endurance: The group tightly gripped the man and talked to him for nearly two hours. When the Metropolitan Police arrived, they reinforced the rescue by using ropes to anchor the man securely to the bridge railings. The Outcome: The London Fire Brigade arrived with a fire engine. A truly evocative image taken by Albert Winkler on August 11, 1957, hides a painful story This is the moment of the rescue of the mountaineer Claudio Corti, the only survivor of the Eiger tragedy. Corti and Stefano Longhi began their climb on 3 August 1957, crossing paths with the Germans Günther Nothdurft and Franz Mayer with whom they decided to join forces. On 9 August Longhi was the victim of a fall and was injured, remaining behind waiting for help. Shortly afterwards, Corti is also left behind because he was hit by some falling rocks. The two Germans continue, but die on the descent. On August 11th the spectacular rescue attempt took place: Lionell Terray, the second climber of the North Eiger, was lowered from the summit to reach Corti. The mountaineer manages to place the Italian on his back and climb back up, saving the injured man. Unfortunately, the same cannot be done with Longhi, who loses his life.

A South African man has been arrested after throwing his daughter of a roof. The unnamed man was involved in a stand-off with police after getting onto the roof of his shack and holding his daughter over the edge to stop the structure from being demolished.  While confirming the incident, police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said that “at about 10.40am, a 38-year-old man climbed onto the roof of one of the structures and held his one-year-old girl in his hands. He did this to force the team not to demolish the structure. “Due to the dangerous threat to the safety of the child, police set out a plan to rescue the girl and to arrest the male,” said Captain Beetge.
