A dolphin tries to save a drowning dog!
One person, whose attention was drawn to the noisy, demonstrative dolphins, said, "They were making a real racket and almost leaned over the sandbar. If it weren't for the dolphins, I would never have seen the dog." (Source: ABC7news) He also said that if the dolphins hadn't been persistent enough to attract attention, the dog would have died in the canal. The dog must have fallen over the edge of the concrete wall into the water and been carried quite a distance. The dog was exhausted from being in the cold water for hours and was likely suffering from hypothermia.
Dolphins are sometimes known to help stranded or injured people. In 2007, a pod of dolphins formed a circle around a surfer who was injured and bleeding after being bitten by a great white shark. The surfer survived because the dolphins prevented further bites. No one knows exactly why the dolphins intervened in such an emergency and saved the life of another species. It is enough to say that they are capable of empathy and heroic acts. WATCH THE VIDEO
