Horrible Video footage In 2019, an inmate in Brazil called Clauvino “Shorty" da Silva attempted to escape prison by dressing up as his teenage daughter who was scheduled to visit him that day. His attempt was unsuccessful and he was found deceased in his cell a few days later.

Clauvino da Silva, also known by his alias Baixinho (“Shorty”), was a member of Brazil’s Red Command drug faction. He was serving a nearly 73-year sentence for drug trafficking when he attempted the audacious escape. His plan involved a silicone mask, a black bra and wig, and a skin-tight T-shirt emblazoned with three pink doughnuts. The disguise was so convincing that he had hoped to trick prison officers into thinking he was his 19-year-old daughter.

However, his plan was foiled when suspicious officials stopped him as he tried to leave the compound. They demanded he strip before their cameras, and the video of him removing his disguise went viral in Brazil and around the world. As a result of his failed escape attempt, Silva was moved into solitary confinement as punishment.

The incident and Silva’s subsequent death in his cell were seen as a major humiliation for Brazil’s notoriously overcrowded jail system. His death is the latest in a series of incidents that have highlighted the issues with the country’s prison system, which is the world’s third largest. In fact, just over a week before Silva’s death, 58 prisoners were killed during an eruption of horrific gang violence in the Amazon state of Pará.

Clauvino da Silva, also known as Shorty, was a convicted drug dealer and a member of the Red Command, one of Brazil's most powerful criminal factions. During his attempted escape, he was caught by the prison guards who noticed his nervousness and his voice.

He was then transferred to a maximum security prison, where he was found dead in his cell three days later. The authorities said he died of an apparent suicide, possibly by hanging himself.

Doctors cut open some women's legs and intentionally infected them to try to simulate battlefield wounds. Some of the women were given no medication when they became desperately ill. Ravensbrück was liberated on this day in 1945 after most prisoners had been evacuated from the camp. Some of the experimentation victims testified at trials after the war.
