In 2021, Angelia Vargas from Houston, Texas, accidentally shot her son while attempting to shoot her neighbor's dog. Her son was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
Vargas allegedly shot three times at the dog, which was running across the street. One of the bullets then ricocheted and hit the boy in the abdomen. Police believed her behavior to be dangerous since she shot her gun across a public roadway, in the direction of two houses. The owner of the dog received a citation since the dog was running loose, according to police.
The incident took place on Dunham Road in Houston. Angelia Mia Vargas, 24 years old at the time, was charged with deadly conduct discharge of a firearm. The charge was filed because she fired across a public roadway and in the direction of two occupied houses.
The dog, a 6-month-old boxer named Bruno, was the target of the shots. Bruno’s owner was issued a Class C misdemeanor citation for allowing Bruno to be loose in the neighborhood without a leash. One of the bullets grazed Bruno’s leg, but the dog was otherwise unharmed.
The incident was captured on a Ring doorbell camera. The footage showed Bruno running out of the house with his owner trailing immediately behind yelling for Bruno to come back to the house. Multiple gunshots were then heard, followed by extended screaming by the little boy’s parents.
