It was described as one of Queensland's most "despicable" double murders and an act of "unspeakable evil of the worst kind".
Two people were tied up, tortured for hours, then locked inside a 2-metre metal toolbox, before being plunged into the depths of a murky Logan dam, south of Brisbane — where they would remain for 18 days. ⠀
The pair screamed and begged for their lives until they finally died in a "cold watery grave".⠀
It was a gruesome discovery, which a Supreme Court judge would later determine was the result of one man's paranoia which "drove the whole thing".⠀
Drug dealer Stou Daniels had believed his friend Mr Breton – who was also a drug dealer — was trying to "set him up".
Two days before Mr Breton was killed, the owner of a local convenience store — where the pair purchased their burner phones from — sent him a CCTV image of Daniels.⠀
He wanted to know if Daniels was the person Mr Breton sourced his drugs from.⠀
Mr Breton replied "yeah that's him" – an "innocent exchange" that would ultimately lead to his murder.⠀
Ms Triscaru had been targeted for simply being friends with Mr Breton and had the "misfortune" of being with him when he had showed another man the text message from the shop owner.⠀
That man then told Daniels about the photograph on Mr Breton's phone.⠀
On Daniels' order, the pair were lured to a Kingston unit, where they were bashed, bound, and then stuffed in the toolbox, before being driven to the dam and dumped.⠀
Another seven men and one woman were also involved in the crime.⠀
Not long after the bodies of Ms Triscaru and Mr Breton were found, police began making arrests.
By 2017, all nine people had been charged over the deaths, but only eight would be committed to stand trial over their murders.⠀
