Detective reveals chilling moment he discovered CCTV footage of a 16-year-old killer dragging a woman's body in a wheelie bin before burying her in a shallow grave
A detective has described the chilling moment he discovered CCTV footage of a 16-year-old boy moving his murder victim's body in a wheelie bin in the middle of the day.
DSI Andy Cribbin, who led the investigation into the murder of teaching assistant Lindsay Birbeck in 2019, has also shared how killer Rocky Marciano Price, now 18, tried to saw his victim's leg off post-mortem.
The motive for the random attack on the 47-year-old mother-of-two has never been revealed, and the killer did not know the victim.
Lindsay was on walk in Accrington, Lancashire, in August 2019 when she was killed. Her body was found 12 days later in a quiet corner of a local graveyard.
A painstaking investigation followed, as police searched for clues to identify Lindsay's killer, before CCTV footage caught Price in plain sight, moving Lindsay's body in a wheelie bin.
'Lindsay's body had been naked but it had been wrapped in some plastic sheeting.
'In between Lindsay's body and plastic sheeting was foliage,' DSI Cribbin explained in the new documentary Britain's Deadliest Kids on Discovery+.
'There was grass present within the sheeting that wasn't actually within the area of the cemetery.
'That showed us the body had been transported from elsewhere.'
'A number of people had noticed a wheelie bin in the crematory, which was unusual.
'It had been seen in the area where Lindsay's body had been recovered,' he added.

Officers reviewing CCTV soon made a chilling discovery, which had the investigation team in disbelief.
'One of the officers reviewing the CCTV from the area of Burley Road finds that we've got CCTV images of a young male pulling a wheelie bin.
'Suddenly we've got a suspect now,' the detective added.
That male was local 16-year-old Rocky Marciano Price, who was surrendered to police by his parents after the CCTV footage was made public, and after a second woman had come forward claiming to have been stalked by the male in the video footage on the same day that Lindsay had disappeared.
The name Price had been mentioned a number of times,' DSI Cribbin added.
'To my surprise, I got a call to say there was a couple who had brought their son into the front desk at Green Bank Police Station because he was the male on the CCTV.'
Price had an IQ of just 65, putting him in the category of extremely low intelligence, but he had no criminal history.
For DSI Cribbin, it was a shocking twist in the tale to find that the main suspect was a 16-year-old boy who had been captured moving a body in daylight.
The injuries that Lindsay had sustained were catastrophic.
'What the pathologist was able to give was a cause of death, which was compression of the neck, which was as a result of some sort of significant force or blunt trauma being applied to Lindsay's neck,' he added.
'That could have been by a kick, a stamp or by use of another object, and she couldn't rule out that Lindsay had possibly been strangled as well.'
'The killer had also tried to dismember Lindsay's body. '
'Quite shockingly, the body had a significant injury to the right leg which had occurred post-mortem,' he added.
'It would appear that her leg had tried to be cut off, we believe by a saw.'
'Rocky was a 16-year-old male, he had issues with communication, and he was autistic,' the detective added.
We interviewed Rocky over a number of days and he replied "no comment" to all questions asked.'
After everything they had been through, the revelation was a shock for the Birbeck family.
'The police said, "we've got a lad in custody" As time went on they said "he's 16 years old", Lindsay's ex-husband Tim Birbeck told documentary makers..
'Even myself, I went "16 years old? My daughter is 17, he's younger than my children."
Police were able to track Price's movements and find a link between his DNA and the burial site.
Despite the wealth of evidence against him, Price pleaded innocent to murder but admitted to moving Lindsay's body.
After two days of questioning, Price came up with a prepared statement via his lawyer to explain his movements between the Coppice – where police believe Lindsay was murdered – and the cemetery where her body was recovered.
It began: 'Rocky Marciano Price, can say that I am not involved in Lindsay Birbeck's murder.
'However, I was approached by a white male, who speaks English, who offered me a large sum of money to move the body.'
Price stood trial in January 2020, pleading not guilty to murder.
It was the first time the Birbeck family came face-to-face with Lindsay's killer.
According to Tim, Price's body language suggested that he was resigned to defeat.
