On New Year’s Eve of 2011, 18-year-old Sarah Mckinley was home with her three-months-old baby in their home in Blanchard, Oklahoma, when two armed intruders started banging on her door.
She quickly called 911 and asked the dispatcher if she was allowed to shoot the men, the dispatcher said,” You do what you have to do to protect your baby.”
As soon as one of the men broke in, she shot and k-illed him, 24-year-old Justin Martin. The other man fled and later surrendered to the police.
Later it was disclosed that both men were drug addicts who had come to the house to find the cancer medications(painkillers) left behind by Mckinley’s late husband.

Investigation
The police arrived shortly after Sarah shot the intruder and found him dead on the floor. He was identified as Justin Martin, 24, who had a criminal record and was holding a knife when he died. The police also arrested his alleged accomplice, Dustin Stewart, 29, who had fled the scene when he heard the gunshot.
Stewart called 911 and confessed that he and Martin had tried to break into Sarah's home, looking for prescription drugs. He said he thought Martin was addicted to painkillers and that he did not know Sarah or her husband. He said he was sorry for what happened and that he did not want anyone to die.
