Margarita was conscious the whole time

This woman's name is Margarita Gratcheva. She is from Serpukhov, a small village south of Moscow, Russia.

On December 8, 2017, Dimitri, her estranged husband, abducted her using his car. He took her to a forest, tied her wrists with tourniquets before cutting off her hands with an axe .

Then he carried her back to the car while she was bleeding. Shouting "Adrenaline rush!", he drove her to the hospital and then to the emergency room.

Margarita was conscious the whole time.

Margarita and Dimitri rented an apartment with their two boys. They married in 2012, and their sons Dimitri and Daniel were born in 2013 and 2014 respectively. They were, in every respect, the perfect, ideal, and loving family.

Margarita's career had been on the rise since returning from maternity leave. She headed the marketing department of a local newspaper and, with her sister, co-owned a successful beauty salon. Meanwhile, Dimitri held a routine job. She earned more money than him and maintained her beauty with manicures, hairstyling, and a stylish wardrobe.

Dimitri wanted to control every aspect of her life: he checked her emails and messages, he called her while she was working. The fact that she was doing better than him made him jealous, and he suspected her of having an affair. He didn't hit her, but his verbal abuse was constant. In a fit of jealousy, he tore her passport to pieces and destroyed her mascara. Margarita filed a police report, but the case went nowhere.

Their relationship deteriorated, and eventually, Margarita found the courage to ask for a divorce. But Dimitri vehemently opposed it. After some time, he calmed down and moved into his mother's apartment, still refusing the divorce.

Shortly after, under the pretext of picking up the children from school, Dimitri took Margarita into the forest. According to her testimony, he arrived with tourniquets and an axe in the trunk of his car. He knew how to use the tourniquets.

If he took her to the hospital, it wasn't out of pure compassion. In fact, he reasoned that by letting her survive and being cooperative during the trial, he might benefit from mitigating circumstances, which would entitle him to a more lenient sentence .

Margarita was lucky. Not only did she survive this horrific ordeal, but doctors also had to undergo nine hours of surgery at a Moscow hospital to reattach her left hand, which had been recovered from the forest. Unfortunately, her right hand could not be saved.

The case received national media coverage on television, and millions of people learned about this heinous crime. Margarita received six million rubles (one hundred thousand dollars) in donations for an operation in Germany to have a bionic hand implanted.

Dimitri was sentenced to 14 years in a maximum-security prison. All his appeals were rejected. He still managed to send threatening letters to Margarita.

Margarita is doing well. Her popularity has brought her friends from all walks of life. She has decided to leave everything behind to start a new life. She plans to remarry this year. Continue reading

Doctors cut open some women's legs and intentionally infected them to try to simulate battlefield wounds. Some of the women were given no medication when they became desperately ill. Ravensbrück was liberated on this day in 1945 after most prisoners had been evacuated from the camp. Some of the experimentation victims testified at trials after the war.
