In August 1996, 33 years old Australian women Marcia Anne Ryan made an unexpected decision to drive nearly 20 hours to her parents ‘ holiday home in Queens land. The choice surprised everyone,In the weeks before she left,Marcia had been showing unusual paranoia, something completely out of character for the normally steady, reliable women her friends knew .
The shift in her behavior began shortly after she took in a boarder and later asked him to leave. No one knows what happened between them, but the change in Marcia’s mental state was noticeable.
Marcia packed her dog, Ziggy, into her car and started the long drive north. She never arrived.
Her vehicle later turned up abandoned. Her wallet was found separately, and several puzzling eyewitness reports placed her in different locations, including one sighting where she was allegedly seen with two unidentified men. Ziggy was never found.
Marcia’s past had its storms. In her early 20s, she survived an abusive relationship and struggled with substance use, leading to a drug-induced psychosis and hospitalization. But she fought hard to rebuild her life, went through rehab, returned to Victoria, and regained stability. By 1996, her family believed that difficult chapter was behind her.
