The Thames Torso Murders are a series of murders that took place between 1873 and 1889. The crimes, largely forgotten and passed over due to the interest in the Jack The Ripper Whitechapel murders of the time, involved the discoveries of the dismembered bodies of eight women. Only one of the victims was ever identified, the person or persons responsible never found. Picture below the Whitehall mystery.
The Jack the Ripper murders took place over a 2 -3 month period in 1888. However, the Whitechapel Murders, the generic name under which the crimes now known as the Jack the Ripper murders fall, cover a longer time frame that runs from April 1888 to February 1891. It’s amazing that the Cleveland Torso Murderer is not often talked about. From 1935-38, this unknown killer terrorized the city of Cleveland, targeting those in vulnerable circumstances, and left between 12-20 people dead. Even outsmarted famed lawman Eliot Ness, leaving a black mark on his distinguished record.Picture below a detective finds wants left of one of the murder victims.
The Hammersmith nude murders is the name of a series of six murders in West London, England, in 1964 and 1965. The victims, all prostitutes, were found undressed in or near the River Thames, leading the press to nickname the killer Jack the Stripper (a reference to "Jack the Ripper"). Two earlier murders, committed in West London in 1959 and 1963, have also been linked by some investigators to the same perpetrator.
Despite "intense media interest and one of the biggest manhunts in Scotland Yard's history" the case is unsolved. All forensic evidence gathered at the time is believed to have been destroyed or lost. Picture below Jack the stripper suspect sketch.
