He bought a kid for $500. He prostituted others from hotels. Now, he's going to prison.

A Jackson man, who prostituted runaway kids, was sentenced Tuesday in federal court to serve 32 years in prison.

Willie Charles Blackmon Jr., 37, was found guilty in November of two counts of sex trafficking minors and two counts of promoting a prostitution business, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Mississippi.

An investigation, which began in 2014, shed light on Blackmon's Jackson area prostitution ring, the release said. Investigators found that Blackmon bought a runaway kid for $500. He recruited other minors who had runaway from home to be prostitutes.

The man rented rooms at local hotels in Jackson and Vicksburg for days at a time. There, minors performed sex acts with men for money, according to the release.

Blackmon kept most, if not all, the money earned through prostitution by the minors, the release said.

He provided them drugs and hurt them, according to authorities. If the kids did not perform sex acts or disrespected Blackmon, he held a gun to their heads.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Carlton W. Reeves ordered Blackmon to pay a $5,000 fine and register as a sex offender in addition to serving time in prison. Continue reading

Joanna Szydłowska traded her bread to another prisoner for a camera. She was one of 74 Polish women subjected to cruel experiments, including unnecessary surgeries. Doctors cut open some women's legs and intentionally infected them to try to simulate battlefield wounds. Some of the women were given no medication when they became desperately ill. Ravensbrück was liberated on this day in 1945 after most prisoners had been evacuated from the camp. Some of the experimentation victims testified at trials after the war. That same day, her body was examined. It was found that she had suffered serious injuries to her head and neck before being strangled to death about 48 hours before her body was found. Despite many years of hard work by investigators, the identity of the Buckskin Girl remained unknown for over 30 years. On April 9, 2018, the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory announced that they had identified the woman as 21-year-old Marcia Lenore King from Little Rock, Arkansas. Marcia had last been seen by her family in 1980. Although she wasn’t officially reported missing, her family had kept searching for her. The identification was made possible by detailed DNA testing.
