The TBI has shared a new age-progressed photo of Summer Wells, created by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Summer Moon Utah Wells was last reported seen at her home on Ben Hill Road in Hawkins County, TN, around 6:30 pm on June 15th, 2021. Her family says she was heading to the basement to play with her toys.
Earlier that day, Summer went with her mother, Candus Wells, to take her grandmother, Candus “Candy” Harer, to the hospital. While waiting for the grandmother’s treatment, Candus took Summer to visit friends in Kingsport, TN. A 15-year-old boy named Hunter joined them after they left the friend’s house.
When they picked up the grandmother from the hospital, they stopped for alcoholic drinks and went to a smoke shop for vapes. They also stopped at the Walgreens drive-thru for a prescription but were told it would take 30 minutes. During that time, they went to Warriors Path State Park so Summer could swim. Candus filmed her in the water that day.
(Some have claimed that Summer briefly went under the water and Hunter pulled her out, but Candus denies this.)
After about half an hour, they returned to Walgreens, then went to Sonic for slushies, and later to a grocery store before dropping Hunter off at home. Candy filmed a video that has sparked debate about the events of that day. It shows Summer in a jacket and pants, asleep with her head resting on milk cartons.
Hunter’s mother later made statements about Candus and Summer’s disappearance. In July 2021, she said Summer was still alive when they dropped Hunter off that day.
Summer’s case has deeply affected many people over the past four years. Today, she would be 9 years old. She had blonde hair and blue eyes, and at the time she went missing, she was wearing a pink shirt and gray shorts.
Summer Wells has never been found. Continue reading
