The cold case team running the Zodiac Killer case has revealed the identity of what was perhaps the most notorious uncaught serial killer in United States history… America’s Jack the Ripper, if you will. His name? Gary Francis Poste.

I had no idea he was caught until I got this question from my buddy Vitmor Gomes. So I headed to Google and… damn! They actually did. Turns out Mr. Poste was actually linked to another murder, a murder unlinked until recently to the Zodiac case. This led to investigators diving a little deeper into the guy. And discovering more and more links, ties and similarities. Furthermore, the ‘unbreakable codes’ he used to send out? They make a lot more sense when using his full name in cracking them…

The sad thing? Justice came a little bit too late. Because Mr. Poste died in 2018. He will never be brought to justice for what he did. But if it’s any consolation to anyone, at least his name is now out there. His face is out there. The mystery has been solved. I’ll be looking forward to finding out more about the guy, his family, his crimes, his possible associates. The mystery isn’t fully gone yet… but it will be, soon enough. That man used to be an enigma. A terrifying night terror. Now he’s just an old, dead man.

Honestly, I had fully expected the Zodiac case to remained forever ‘cold’. Gone without a trace. The mastermind who outsmarted the police, the FBI, and a million private sleuths and enthusiasts fancying themselves couldn’t catch him. He would ride away into the sunset, never to be seen again… how wrong I was! Hell, it even turns out some of those ‘amateurs’ online actually had his name.[1] His name floated around in online discussions as early as last year as a possible suspect. It’s rare for average Joe’s to be right about something of this magnitude.

What surprised me the most is that Gary F. Poste was a married man. He had a wife, whom he was reportedly abusive to, he had friends, a son, grandchildren. A rich and full life. Authorities had always portrayed Zodiac as a loner, socially awkward, a weirdo… not a family man capable of hiding in plain sight for decades and never getting caught. That shocked me. Joanna Szydłowska traded her bread to another prisoner for a camera. She was one of 74 Polish women subjected to cruel experiments, including unnecessary surgeries. Doctors cut open some women's legs and intentionally infected them to try to simulate battlefield wounds. Some of the women were given no medication when they became desperately ill. Ravensbrück was liberated on this day in 1945 after most prisoners had been evacuated from the camp. Some of the experimentation victims testified at trials after the war. That same day, her body was examined. It was found that she had suffered serious injuries to her head and neck before being strangled to death about 48 hours before her body was found. Despite many years of hard work by investigators, the identity of the Buckskin Girl remained unknown for over 30 years. On April 9, 2018, the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory announced that they had identified the woman as 21-year-old Marcia Lenore King from Little Rock, Arkansas. Marcia had last been seen by her family in 1980. Although she wasn’t officially reported missing, her family had kept searching for her. The identification was made possible by detailed DNA testing.
