In March 1997, Noreen Gosch was woken up by a knock at her door at 2:30 in the morning. When she opened it, she says she saw her son Johnny — the same boy who had gone missing 15 years earlier while delivering newspapers at age 12. Standing next to him was a man she didn’t know.
Johnny told her that he had been taken and forced into a sḛx trafficking ring. He said he managed to escape for a short time just to see her, but warned her not to call the police. Then, just as quickly as he arrived, he left — and Noreen says she hasn’t seen him since.
Many people, including investigators and even Johnny’s father, don’t believe her story. But Noreen wasn’t the only one who claimed to see Johnny after he disappeared.
In the years after Johnny went missing from his neighborhood in Iowa in 1982, there were strange reports from all over the country. One woman in Tulsa, Oklahoma said a boy came up to her in public and cried, “Please, lady, help me! My name is John David Gosch,” before two men pulled him away.
Another person said they got a dollar bill with Johnny’s name and the words “I am alive” written on it.
Even with all these possible sightings, Johnny’s case has never been solved. His story remains one of the most heartbreaking and mysterious missing child cases in America. Continue reading
