• Anton Yelchin, 27

Anton Yelchin was known for starring in the Star Trek movies. Just a few weeks ago, one of his Star Treks movies was playing on TV and my heart suddenly wrenched when his character appeared on screen.

This photo was the last selfie Yelchin posted three days before his death. On June 19th, 2016, he died in a horrific car accident just outside his home, where his Jeep rolled backwards and crashed, pinning and trapping him between a mailbox and a fence. His lungs were crushed, and experts say Yelchin died within one minute of impact.

• Chris Benoit, 42

Chris Benoit was a professional wrestler who worked for several associations, including WWE. For some time, he used to be my favorite of the superstars; his moves were impressive and he achieved a good number of titles. He was a very likable wrestler and had thousands of fans.

This photo was taken shortly before a catastrophe. On June 22, 2007, Benoit became of his friends' concern as neither him nor any members of his family with whom he lived replied to any of the phone calls. Police eventually got to his home, only to find Benoit, his wife Nancy and young son Daniel dead.

After autopsies were done, it was found that the wife and kid had been intoxicated, and Benoit also had high levels of chemicals in his system, and his body was found hanging from one of his machines in his basement's gym. It was then concluded that Benoit had murdered his wife and son, then committed suicide.

Scientists volunteered to examine Benoit's brain afterwards, after a friend of his suggested he would have brain damage. And indeed, after the examinations, scientists found that Benoit's brain was “worse than a dementia patient's brain", and resembled the brain of an NFL player who had suffered various concussions.

Fans suggest that Benoit's signature move inside the ring could have been responsible for his brain damage, as the move consisted of striking Benoit's skull against his opponents.

Despite scientific proof of the damage in his brain which could have caused him to lose control, WWE distanced themselves from any mention of Benoit, removing merchandise from their stores and deleting him from their history.

• Paul Walker, 40

This is one of the pictures I find the most disturbing. As seen above, Walker is in a Red Porsche, which is the car that would kill him a few moments later.

Walker and his driver drove the car at around 85 mph, which eventually led to it crashing and setting it on fire, killing both men In 2013.

Walker was known for a variety of roles, including his contributions in the Fast and Furious movies.

• Alan Rickman, 69

This is the last known photograph of the famous Alan Rickman.

Despite looking well, Alan Rickman kept a secret his battle with pancreatic cancer until his death on January 14th, 2016.

Alan Rickman was famous for several roles, my favorite of which being Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series.

We've all heard of Amelia Earhart's mysterious disappearance. She was praised for being one of the most successful female pilots.

In this picture, she is seen posing next to her navigators on July 2nd, 1937, moments before departing for the flight of her doom. Her plane disappeared somewhere over the Pacific Ocean and under mysterious circumstances. Her story caused several people to come up with conspiracy theories in hopes to explain this puzzling disappearance. Continue reading

Joanna Szydłowska traded her bread to another prisoner for a camera. She was one of 74 Polish women subjected to cruel experiments, including unnecessary surgeries. Doctors cut open some women's legs and intentionally infected them to try to simulate battlefield wounds. Some of the women were given no medication when they became desperately ill. Ravensbrück was liberated on this day in 1945 after most prisoners had been evacuated from the camp. Some of the experimentation victims testified at trials after the war. That same day, her body was examined. It was found that she had suffered serious injuries to her head and neck before being strangled to death about 48 hours before her body was found. Despite many years of hard work by investigators, the identity of the Buckskin Girl remained unknown for over 30 years. On April 9, 2018, the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory announced that they had identified the woman as 21-year-old Marcia Lenore King from Little Rock, Arkansas. Marcia had last been seen by her family in 1980. Although she wasn’t officially reported missing, her family had kept searching for her. The identification was made possible by detailed DNA testing. Klaus Barbie had no regrets about sending thousands to their deaths. He personally tortured members of the French resistance and was responsible for the deportation of thousands of Jews from German-occupied France. As head of a local office of the Gestapo, the Nazis' political police force, Barbie made a name for himself as the "Butcher of Lyon." In 1944, he learned that 44 Jewish children were being sheltered in a nearby village. He had the children arrested and sent them to Auschwitz. None survived. Years after the war, and after escaping to South America, Barbie was captured and tried for crimes against humanity.
