Edmund Kemper was a sociopath and an American serial killer who was active in the early 1970s.
His full name is Edmund Emil “Ed” Kemper III. He had many aliases like Ed, big Ed, Co-Ed killer & Co-Ed butcher. He was born on 18 December, 1948, in Burbank, California. His parents were Edmund Jr and Clarnell Kemper. Elder sister named Susan Hughey Kemper and younger sister, Allyn Lee Kemper.
Childhood: Kemper had a close relationship with his father and was devastated when his parents seperated in 1957. This caused him to be raised by her mother Carnell and they had a dysfunctional relationship. At the age of 10, he buried a cat alive; once it died, he dug it up, decaptivated it and mounted its head on a spike. He used to cut off the heads of his sister’s doll to enact murders and bizarre sexual rituals. He fantasized about being executed by electric chair and would often enact it as an “electric chair game” with his sisters. He also lived to play “Gas Chamber” in which he asked his younger sister to tie him up, flip an imaginary switch and then he would tumble over, writhe on the floor, pretending to be dying of gas inhalation.
Teen life: At the age of 13, he killed another family cat as he perceived to be doing a favour to his younger sister and kept pieces of it in his closet. On one occasion, when his elder sister asked why he did not try to kiss his teacher, he replied “ If I kiss her, I'd have to kill her first.”
First Kill: On August 27, 1964, Ed(15 yo) had an argument with his grandmother, he shot her with his grandfather’s .22 caliber rifle just “to see what it felt like”. He then stabbed her dead body multiple times with a kitchen knife. Ed also killed his grandfather who came home from shopping to spare him the sight of his dead wife and then made two calls, first to his mother and then to local police about his act and then patiently waited on the porch for their arrival. After being arrested, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia but surprisingly he got along well (he was very intelligent with an IQ of 145). December 18, 1969, on his 21st birthday, Kemper was released.
Adulthood: On May 7, 1972, he commited his first two murders as a serial killer. Over the following nine months, he killed four more women. Many of his murders were commited after an argument with his mother. Kemper also had applied to become a State Trooper, but was rejected because of his size as he weighed around 300 pounds and was 6 feet 9 inches tall, which led to his nickname “Big-Ed.”
On April 19, 1973, he bludgeoned him mother to death in her sleep and spent hours mutilating her body, severing her head, using it for oral sex, tossing darts at it and throwing her vocal cords into the garbage disposer. He then invited a friend of his mother, Sally and killed her as well when she arrived.
After four days on the road without hearing any such reports about his murders, Kemper stopped at a phone booth in Pueblo, Colorado, called friends at Santa Cruz Police Department and confessed to his eight murders.
Trial: Kemper went on trial for his crimes in October, 1973 and charged with eight counts of first-degree murder. He was found guilty of all charges in early November and received eight concurrent life sentences. At present, Kemper is serving his time at California Medical Facility in Vacaville.
When I see a pretty girl walking down the street, I think two things: one part of me wants to take her home, be real nice and treat her right; the other part wonders what her head would look like on a stick - Ed Kemper
