A couple who terrorized a black child's birthday party outside of Atlanta in the name of the Confederate flag have received a combined 19 year long prison sentence
CNN reported that on Feb. 27, 2017, 26-year-old Jose “Joe” Torres received a sentence of 20 years (13 in prison) for three counts of aggravated assault, one count of terroristic threats, and one count of breaking Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.
His girlfriend, Kayla Norton, then 25, received a sentence of 15 years (six in prison) for one count of terroristic threats and one count of breaking the Street Gang Act. Judge William McClain called their actions a hate crime. Continue reading
Here is another story
On the afternoon of October 22, 2005, Tara Grinstead spent time at home helping some pageant girls get ready for the Miss Sweet Potato pageant. She did their hair and makeup. Later that evening, the girls left for the event in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
At about 11:00 p.m., she left the party and is believed to have gone straight home, where she lived by herself. No one has seen or heard from her since that night.
The next day, October 23, Tara didn’t show up to church, which was very unusual for her.
