Hannah Szenes risked her life to return to Nazi-occupied Europe and try to aid her fellow Jews.
Hannah had left her home in Budapest in 1939, but, during World War II, she refused to stay safely on the sidelines.
Hannah joined the British Army along with a group of young Jews and parachuted into German-occupied Europe in March 1944. Their mission was to organize resistance against the Nazis and help rescue Allied personnel.
Hannah landed in Yugoslavia and later crossed into Hungary, where she was captured with a radio transmitter. She was held and tortured for nearly five months but refused to give up the transmitter's code.
Hannah was eventually executed 80 years ago #OTD.
