On August 6, 1890, at Auburn Prison, New York, William Kemmler became the first person to be sent to the chair

On August 6, 1890, at Auburn Prison, New York, William Kemmler became the first person to be sent to the chair. He was convicted of murdering his lover, Matilda Ziegler, with an axe. After he was strapped in, a charge of approximately 700 volts was delivered for only 17 seconds before the current failed.  Although witnesses reported smelling burnt clothing and charred flesh, Kemmler was far from dead, and a second shock was prepared. The second charge was 1,030 volts and applied for about two minutes, whereupon smoke was observed coming from the head of Kemmler, who was clearly deceased. An autopsy showed that the electrode attached to his back had burned through to the spine. Electrocution as a humane means of execution was first suggested in 1881 by Dr. Albert Southwick, a dentist. Southwick had witnessed an elderly drunkard “painlessly” killed after touching the terminals of an electrical generator in Buffalo, New York. In the prevalent form of execution at the time—death b...

This is the picture of a 2 year-old boy Sujith Wilson, who fell into the borewell and stuck at the depth of 82 feet since friday

This is the picture of a 2 year-old boy Sujith Wilson, who fell into the borewell and stuck at the depth of 82 feet since friday. ( Location: trichy district, Tamilnadu) This picture is so heart wrenching. The cries of the innocent soul when he was consious and the way his mother, who was helpless there tried to console him by screaming “don't cry, we'll get you back dear” in agony saddened me to the core. Initially he was stuck at just 5 feet depth.Later on while the rescue operation he was slid further and reached 82 feet below the surface. All the efforts made by the rescuers were failed and rescue operation is still on. Hardrock structure of that area increased the difficulty of the task. After all the odds, I hope he'll be rescued alive. Edit: Rescue crew couldn't able to save him. He was retrieved dead. RIP Sujith. Watch the video  Get the best deals here!

A bull, which had broken loose from its chain, was running directly towards the child. Everything could have ended in a second. But before it could reach him, a cow came forward. It quickly positioned itself between the bull and the child, using its body to protect him. The child crawled under the cow for safety, and the cow stayed firm, not moving from that spot, focused solely on protecting the child. The bull did not retreat until the danger passed.
