Tina Michelle Fontaine

Tina age 15 was raised primarily by her great aunt and uncle after her father, Eugene Fontaine, was diagnosed with Cancer. Eugene was later beaten to death in 2011. Tina's aunt and uncle describe her as a good kid who generally stayed out of trouble until the beginning of 2014 when she began to visit her biological mother, Valentina Duck, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The two had started to rebuild their relationship following Eugene's death.Valetina had a known history of drinking and working in the sex trade. However, Tina received permission from her social worker to continue visits. Tina really began to withdraw from her caregivers once she was asked to prepare a victim's impact statement about her father's murder. In June of 2014, Tina's aunt gave her $50 dollars and a calling card in case she wanted to return home early, and sent her off on her last visit to Winnipeg. When her aunt and uncle didn't hear from her, they called social services and voluntarily placed Tina in their custody in the hopes that it would help her be found. The last reported sighting of Tina was on August 8th, 2014.

Tina's body was discovered wrapped in a Costco duvet cover in Winnipeg's Red River near the Alexander Docks on August 17th, 2014. On December 11th, 2015, a man named Raymond Cormier, 53, was charged with second degree murder in Tina's case. Police reported that Tina and Raymond had had several "encounters" and it was their belief that he killed her during their last meeting. The police did refer to Tina as an "exploited child" and said that Tina had been exploited by several different people. Cormier has a history of 92 past convictions ranging from petty crimes to violence. Tina's murder is often cited as what sparked public interest in missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada. RCMP received a multitude of tips from the public and cited this as one of the reasons they were finally able to charger Cormier. Cormier was acquitted by a jury in February 2018.

Joanna Szydłowska traded her bread to another prisoner for a camera. She was one of 74 Polish women subjected to cruel experiments, including unnecessary surgeries. Doctors cut open some women's legs and intentionally infected them to try to simulate battlefield wounds. Some of the women were given no medication when they became desperately ill. Ravensbrück was liberated on this day in 1945 after most prisoners had been evacuated from the camp. Some of the experimentation victims testified at trials after the war. That same day, her body was examined. It was found that she had suffered serious injuries to her head and neck before being strangled to death about 48 hours before her body was found. Despite many years of hard work by investigators, the identity of the Buckskin Girl remained unknown for over 30 years. On April 9, 2018, the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory announced that they had identified the woman as 21-year-old Marcia Lenore King from Little Rock, Arkansas. Marcia had last been seen by her family in 1980. Although she wasn’t officially reported missing, her family had kept searching for her. The identification was made possible by detailed DNA testing. Eventually, Michał heard the rumors of what was happening to his friends in family in Warsaw and came back to the city. He lived outside of the ghetto under a false name: Tadeusz Mecner. Klaus Barbie had no regrets about sending thousands to their deaths. He personally tortured members of the French resistance and was responsible for the deportation of thousands of Jews from German-occupied France. As head of a local office of the Gestapo, the Nazis' political police force, Barbie made a name for himself as the "Butcher of Lyon." In 1944, he learned that 44 Jewish children were being sheltered in a nearby village. He had the children arrested and sent them to Auschwitz. None survived. Years after the war, and after escaping to South America, Barbie was captured and tried for crimes against humanity.
